The United Arab Emirates is a constitutional federation of seven emirates – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah – established in 1971.

The UAE is one of the booming markets in the Middle East and foreign investment by means of capital, technology or expertise is more than welcome. Generally, any locally incorporated company must be at least 51% owned by UAE nationals, but the apportionment and distribution of profits is not similarly constrained. However, investment into one of the free trade zones can be 100% foreign-owned.

Doing business is very attractive as the tax-free options and the legal formalities are generous and simple. There is no income tax on companies, with the exception of oil companies and foreign-owned banks.

Four-fifths of the UAE are desert, yet it is a country of contrasting landscapes, from awe-inspiring dunes to rich oases, precipitous rocky mountains to fertile plains. Partly on the back of this, the UAE has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing tourist destinations, boasting sun, sand, sea, sports, unbeatable shopping, top-class hotels and restaurants, an intriguing traditional culture, and a safe and welcoming environment.
